Hunger, a thirst to ignore!

Here is my best nutritional advice:
When you are hungry, drink some water first.
Then do something else for 10 minutes to check that your “hunger” was real.
It is very effective against sudden urges and craving for food.

Your brain needs a reset

Abundance and availability of food in our society means that our brain is conditioned to send you a message: “I’m hungry”, as soon as something goes wrong – like a spoiled brat. Hunger has become a reflex:

  • Because it is time to eat,
  • To ease stress,
  • To eliminate his anxieties,
  • To escape our worries – even if it does not last long.

This has catastrophic consequences :
  1. Overweight.
  2. Increase in the number of type 2 diabetes. (sugar induced)
  3. Aging: Excess food maintains a permanent inflammation of the body.
  4. Chronic fatigue.
  5. Lack of energy linked to overeating
  6. Spending too much on food
  7. Dissatisfaction: “Ah, if I could only lose a few pounds”
A simple solution, a simple thing that we do not do enough of … DRINK!

Eating is as important as drinking. We can survive 40 days without eating, but only 4 days without drinking.
The desire to eat is felt much more often than the desire to drink, isn’t it?

What to do?
  1. Drink a large glass of water before each meal.
  2. Whenever you feel hungry at an inappropriate time (eg outside of meals), drink some water.
You will do your body a world of good.

Researchers in the UK have recruited obese subjects. All received advice on nutrition and physical activity. Then they were divided into two groups. Subjects in the first group were instructed to drink 500 mL of water 30 minutes before each meal (morning, noon and night). The other group did not take anything prior to meals. After 12 weeks, it was found that subjects who drank water lost (on average) 4.3 kg (1)! The subjects in the control group lost (on average) 0.8 kg – probably the effect of nutritional and fitness advice.

Drinking water, what happens next?
Drinking water brings many benefits(2) :
  1. You increase your physical capabilities.
  2. You improve your intellectual abilities (your brain decreases in size when you are dehydrated).
  3. You improve your cognitive abilities (sight, memory, etc.) – your eyes are particularly sensitive to dehydration.
  4. You preserve your skin.
  5. You reduce your risk of damaging your vocal cords.
  6. You improve your intestinal transit.
  7. You eat less – so you keep your weight under control.
  8. You evacuate the waste and pollutants accumulated in your body.
  9. You ensure optimal functionality of your kidneys and bladder.
  10. In case of infection, drinking helps to keep control of your fever.

The list of the benefits of water cis almost never ending … you get the idea. So remember, as soon as you’re hungry … drink water!
