Why do you have back pain?

For reasons lost to history, we once thought dry land looked better than the ocean. Then one day the tress looked better than dry land. In time we got bored with the trees and decided to come down and give land another go, but this time walking upright.

That’s when it all went to hell for our backs. Your doctor of chiropractic will tell you that our spines were designed as bridges, to hang suspended like the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco between our hips and our shoulders. But the day we first rose up erect and faced our future as Homo Sapines, the spine became a tower with too much weight on it and not enough support around it.

For many who have reached the age right around 40 when the factory warranty lapses on the machine and the pounds start creeping on, the spine begins its painful slow-motion collapse.
All of this is compounded by the effect of the sitting position which in no way is any better for your back, in fact it is even worse in the long terme.

Due to the pressure on the discs of our spine that ressemble jelly doughnuts and act as shock absorbers, they begin to decay, walls of collagen begin to crack. For those with the wrong genes, the discs respond by bulging out like squeezed balloons, typically against nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and transmit signals from the brain to our arms and legs.

Our brain pain receptors light up, the herniated disc also leak acidic jelly on the nerve sheath, chemically burning it, potentially beyond repair. As someone’s dad said: “Getting old ain’t for sissies”

What to do?
